Mosaic Commons Membership and Participation Policy

Our membership policy provides for three categories of participation in the community, as defined below.  Rights, privileges and expectations for each category are shown in the grid below.

Friends of Mosaic Commons – A Friend of MC (formerly known as Associate Member) is:

  1. A person who does not live in the community, but has been invited to participate in the MC community. To become a Friend, a MC Cohousing Member proposes the individual for plenary approval.  OR

  2. A resident who chooses not to become full Cohousing Members; they may opt to become a Friend instead. OR

  3. A non-resident Unit Owner; they may choose to become a Friend without plenary approval.

MC Cohousing Members – A community resident who has opted to become a member.  Residents should tell their mentors and/or the Trustees that they wish to become members, and to make a financial pledge.  The plenary may decide to make an exception to the resident-only rule, and invite a non-resident Friend to become a Cohousing Member.  This is reserved for the occasional Friend who is already functioning as a member in terms of participation in the community.  (Cohousing Members who own their homes are also Unit Owners).

Unit Owners –  A Unit Owner is a deeded owner of a unit at Mosaic Commons. (For the purposes of this matrix, a "Unit Owner" is defined by HOA policy.)  Unit Owners who are also residents may opt to become Cohousing Members as well. Non-resident owners may choose to be Friends of MC without plenary approval.  (Rights and responsibilities of Unit Owners beyond the community participation categories covered in this policy are detailed in the MC Declaration of Trust.  This policy does not limit those rights or responsibilities.)
